The registration process can be confusing, especially if you trained outside North America. We give general guidance on licensing pathways so you know what to expect and where to apply.
St. Paul’s Academy for Nurses is not a nursing regulator, licensing authority, immigration consultant or legal service. Licensing decisions are made only by the appropriate regulatory body.
Registering as a nurse in Canada
Each province has its own nursing regulator. In Ontario, that is the College of Nurses of Ontario (cno.org). Internationally educated nurses often start with the National Nursing Assessment Service (nnas.ca).
Licensing in the United States
Each state has its own board of nursing. The NCLEX is administered through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (ncsbn.org).
